Overview

In the Twin Cities during the 1960s-70s, a vibrant musical genre was developing that was a fusion of funk, R & B and soul. This genre of music spurred inspirational moments in Minnesota music history with the development of "Black and Proud Record Company" (the twin cities first African American owned record label), successful producers such as Flyte Tyme productions, and notable musicians such as Prince, the Valdons, Flyte Tyme and the Exciters (to name a few).

There were many musicians and groups that formed during this period. This guide will point you to the various resources MNHS has in its collections related to this musical period in Minnesota.
