Records of and indexes to documents received for filing in the secretary of state’s office, including city charters, certificates of incorporation for villages, notices of village charter amendments, appointments and resignations of state officers, notices of election, oaths of office, attorney general’s opinions, governor’s proclamations and vetoes, reports of state officers, railroad liens, maps, services of process, and applications for trademark registration (1893-1900).

Territoral Secretary Bond & Oath Records

Records, 1849-1857
Miscellaneous records of the territorial secretary, including bonds and oaths for notaries public, territorial officers, commissioners of deeds, and county officers (1849-1857).

Civil Appointment Records, 1849-1858
Record of appointment of notaries public, justices of the peace, commissioners of deeds, and territorial and county officers. Includes names, date of appointment, residence, and description of office.

County Bond & Oath Records

Bond and/or oath records can be found in the:

  • County Auditor records,
  • County Register of Deeds records, or the
  • County District Court records

For bond and oath records search the library catalog using the county name and the search terms "bond" and/or "oath".  For example to find bond and oath records from Washington County you would search: Washington County bond or Washington county oath in the library catalog

You can also search for county bond and oath records by using the Advanced Search.

 

Choose the material type "Archival materials" from the dropdown menu to the right.   

 

Click "Search."

When your results are listed use the menu on the right side of the screen to filter your results.  Under the "Collections" option select "Local Government Records."

Click on "Apply Filters" at the bottom of the screen.

 

Official/Employee Bond & Oath Records

To search for official/employee bond and oath records, search the library catalog by the type of official/employee. 

Example: Notary public

You can also search for official/employee bond and oath records by using the Advanced Search.

 

Choose the material type "Archival materials" from the dropdown menu to the right.   

 

 

Click "Search."

When your results are listed use the menu on the right side of the screen to filter your results.  Under the "Collections" option select "State Government Records."

Click on "Apply Filters" at the bottom of the screen.
