  • St. Paul Pioneer Press

Dates:

  • October 1853: First general store is completed. 
  • 1857: Meighen store and house is completed. 
  • 1868: Railroad bypasses Forestville. 
  • 1879:  William Meighen runs for governor. 
  • 1910: Meighen store closes. 
  • February 12, 1936: Thomas Meighen dies in Pittsburg, Penn.
  • Spring 1963: Forestville State Park Opens
  • 1978: The buildings of Forestville are acquired by the Minnesota Historical Society
  • 1992: Historic Forestville reopens to the public

The Minnesota Historical Society holds the world's largest collection of Minnesota newspapers, with dates ranging from 1849 to the present day.
