Located in the Minnesota History Center, the Minnesota State Historic Preservation Office holds research files of great value to building historians. Statewide inventory files are available for research by appointment.

Northwest Architectural Archives, University of Minnesota
The Northwest Architectural Archives holds a large collection of records by architects, engineers, and contractors. Their online guide Drafting a House History is a good overview of the building history research process.

Hennepin County Library Special Collections, Hennepin County Minnesota
Hennepin County Library Special Collections has a number of resources for building historians.  

Ramsey County Historical Society, Ramsey County Minnesota
Ramsey County Historical Society has a large collection of St. Paul building permits and permit cards as well as photographs, publications, maps, and manuscript collections relating to the built environment of the county.

Many local libraries and county historical societies also have important information about buildings in their areas.
