Land Records at MNHS

Overview

Maiden Rock on the Burlington Route, 1899

The Gale Family Library has a wealth of land record resources. Land records can reveal how the land was used over time, how the boundaries and natural features of the property have changed, the value of the land, and who the previous owners were.  Included in our collections are records of acquisition, sale, the federal survey of Minnesota and the initial transfer of title of public lands, tax and assessment records, as well as maps and other geographical sources.
